Bail Denied to Man Accused of Killing Wife

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge denied bail to Daniel J. Montecalvo, who is accused of killing his wife in 1988 and blaming her death on burglars.
Judge Jack B. Tso ruled that Montecalvo, 49, remained a flight risk and a possible danger to witnesses in his murder trial, which began Monday in Pasadena.
Prosecutors claim that Montecalvo murdered his wife, Carol, at their Burbank home and then shot himself to support his story that the couple had surprised intruders. Montecalvo’s attorney told jurors that “overzealous” police officers had falsely accused his client.
Montecalvo is being held in County Jail without bail.
