Peggy Buckey Files Suit for Malicious Prosecution
- Share via
Peggy McMartin Buckey, the administrator of the McMartin Pre-School in Manhattan Beach who was acquitted earlier this year on child-molestation charges, filed suit Wednesday against Los Angeles County, the city of Manhattan Beach and others she claims maliciously prosecuted and conspired against her.
The Los Angeles Superior Court suit is very similar to one Buckey filed in federal court last summer. That claim was dismissed.
The suit, which seeks unspecified damages, claims the defendants conspired to investigate the allegations of child molestation at McMartin and to predetermine the investigation’s outcome. The defendants are accused of falsifying evidence, generating excessive publicity and coaching witnesses.
Other defendants named are former Dist. Atty. Robert Philobosian; Children’s Institute International, which initially interviewed the children; former CII employee Kathleen MacFarlane; Capital Cities/ABC Inc., and former KABC television reporter Wayne Satz.
