Santa Margarita Wins Its Fourth in a Row

MISSION VIEJO — Santa Margarita won its fourth consecutive game Friday night at Saddleback College, a 37-0 victory over Valley Christian (1-3) before 1,200 fans.
Santa Margarita’s Josh Ireland, the county’s leading rusher with 614 yards going into the game, left with 6:09 left in the second quarter with an ankle injury. Ireland rushed for 43 yards in six carries and caught a touchdown pass.
Santa Margarita scored with 5:56 left in the first quarter on a 22-yard pass from quarterback Trevor Yankoff to Ireland. Travis Lucero’s kick made it 7-0.
Lucero added a 34-yard field goal with 3:02 left in the quarter.
Matt Rominger ran two yards for a touchdown and a 17-0 lead with 5:56 remaining and Yankoff passed 13 yards to David Shearer to make it 24-0 at the half.
Santa Margarita scored fourth-quarter touchdowns on an eight-yard run by halfback Sergio Muniz and a 10-yard run by quarterback Joey Farris.
