Palos Verdes High School football player Andrew Miller, whose neck injury caused a game against Torrance High to be called with 4:44 left Thursday night at Torrance Stadium, will miss only one or two games, school officials said Friday.
Miller had a strained neck and was released from Torrance’s Little Company of Mary Hospital late Thursday night. Miller stayed home from school Friday, Palos Verdes Athletic Director Pete Fawaz said.
“But he’s doing fine,” Fawaz said.
Miller, a senior, was playing defensive end when he failed to get up after a play in the fourth quarter. Paramedics and Palos Verdes team physician John O’Hara treated him on the field for about 20 minutes before he was taken to the hospital.
Palos Verdes Principal Kelly Johnson said it was his decision to call off the game. Torrance Principal Joe Rogers agreed with the decision, Johnson said.
“The kids were pretty shaken up,” Johnson said. “The importance of the game was diminished.
Torrance was leading, 17-0, at the time of the injury and was declared the winner.
