ROUNDUP : Pair of 100-Yard Rushers Lead Ventura to 35-10 Win

Derek Swafford and Jack Hammond each rushed for more than 100 yards to spark Ventura High to a 35-10 victory over Dos Pueblos in a Channel League opener Friday at San Marcos High.
Ventura scored three times in the third quarter to snap a 7-7 halftime tie. Swafford scored on a one-yard run to cap a nine-play, 80-yard drive to open the third quarter and give Ventura (3-1 overall) the lead for good.
Dos Pueblos countered with a 30-yard field goal, but later in the quarter Hammond dashed 38 yards for a touchdown, and Swafford scored from nine yards to give Ventura a 28-10 lead.
Swafford (113 yards, three touchdowns) and Hammond (133 yards, one touchdown) each had 17 carries.
Dos Pueblos (0-4, 0-1) opened the game with a 73-yard scoring drive in nine plays. Cy Brunner ran five yards for a touchdown to cap the march. Brunner led the Chargers with 105 yards in 19 carries.
Swafford set up his own touchdown run in the second quarter by tossing a 48-yard option pass to Brian Righetti to advance the ball to the Dos Pueblos three-yard line.
