BEIJING — Millions of books, tapes and videos have been banned in China’s current campaign against Western and anti-Communist influences, according to a trade publication.
The Oct. 3 edition of the biweekly Press and Publishing Journal, seen in Beijing today, said: “Good results have been achieved so far.”
Since the campaign began in August last year, more than 39 million books and magazines and 1.6 million music and video tapes have been banned, it said.
“Some 2,500 outlets (producing banned material) have been smashed,” it said. “This has played a vital role against bourgeois liberalism and peaceful evolution.”
Publishing houses have increased their output of Marxist works. “All these books are beneficial in cleaning people’s minds as to who is right and who is wrong and maintaining stability,” the journal said.
