Tile Is in Style: The swanky new Irvine Co. development on the bare hills between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach has a $12-million clubhouse for the golf courses designed in--surprise!--what the architects are calling Spanish Colonial Revival Style.
Orange County residents won’t have to be told that means light-colored stucco walls and a tile roof. The style is a favorite of Irvine Co. Chairman Donald L. Bren, and in the last few years the ubiquitous style has spread from the company’s sprawling landholdings into other developer’s subdivisions around the southern half of the county.
The $12-million clubhouse, incidentally, will service two golf courses at the Newport Coast development and is set to open in July. The project includes a couple of hotels and several thousand extremely expensive homes.
Building the new club off Pelican Road is Snyder-Langston Builders, Irvine. The architect is Mahan & Lenny Architects.
