A Van Nuys man was shot and killed in the courtyard of his apartment building after an argument with a neighbor, Los Angeles police said Saturday.
Max Luna, 41, was dead when police and Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived on the scene in the 7000 block of Lennox Avenue about 8:45 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Tim Day said.
Vicente Israel Jovel, 39, who lived at the same apartment building, was arrested and charged with murder about 2 1/2 hours later when he turned himself in to police, Day said. He was being held without bail Saturday at the Van Nuys Jail.
Witnesses told police the two men had had a fistfight before the shooting and that Luna had emerged the victor. Jovel left the area after the fight, but returned shortly afterward with a gun and shot Luna several times, Day said.
Bystanders unsuccessfully attempted to revive Luna, police said.
