Magnetek Inc.: The Los Angeles-based provider of electrical equipment and services posted first-quarter net income of $6.4 million, up 21% from a year earlier. Sales totaled $265 million, a gain of 11%. The results were attributed to continuing demand for its utility and power products, a reduction of debt and the broadening of its manufacturing base and marketing channels overseas.
