A Short Ride From Paris

How to get there: Maison Fournaise is on the island of Chatou, directly west of Paris’ La Defense and Reuil-Malmaison districts and is easily reached from the city by Paris RER commuter line (train A). Exit Chatou/Croissy and then walk five minutes north along the river.
If you drive, follow the N13 (in the direction St. Germain en Laye) from La Defense to the N190. Exit mid-river just before Chatou. Parking is available on the island. For motorists, Chatou is a perfectly situated companion to Giverny, one hour west, or for tiny Auvers-sur-Oise, 30 minutes north, which was an idyllic spot for Renoir, Cezanne and Van Gogh.
When to go: The Restaurant Fournaise is open seven days a week (closed Mondays in winter only) for lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. It remains open for afternoon tea and serves dinner from 7 to 11 p.m. Reservations for the historic dining room and balcony places are suggested. Local telephone: 30714191.
Anticipate spending $100 for two, with wine, for lunch or dinner. The brasserie and terraces offer a prix fixe lunch for under $30, with wine.
