Monroe 20, Grant 8--Monroe scored two defensive touchdowns in the first quarter, then withstood a late Grant rally at Monroe to win its first game of the season.
The Vikings (1-4-1, 1-3) scored first on a 34-yard interception return by linebacker Mike Bernaldo. Monroe scored again when Chris Garcia picked up Grant quarterback Jason Arnold’s fumble and ran one yard for a touchdown.
Trailing, 14-0, Grant (3-4, 1-3) narrowed the deficit to 14-8, when Gerald Redmond--who replaced Arnold--scored on an 11-yard run in the third quarter.
Monroe running back Sean Bell gained 133 yards to help the Vikings control the clock.
Kijana Foster’s one-yard plunge gave Monroe its margin of victory.
