A 21-year-old Riverside man was in custody Monday for alleged drunk driving in connection with a car accident that left a Yorba Linda man dead, the California Highway Patrol said.
James Anthony Velasco, 20, died at the scene of the 9:30 p.m. accident Sunday on the westbound Riverside Freeway. A CHP spokeswoman said Velasco was traveling in the fast lane when he lost control of his car for an unknown reason and veered across the freeway, broadsiding a vehicle driven by Marcus Benjamin Barron.
Barron, who was arrested for drunk driving, was in guarded condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana with a broken leg, a hospital spokeswoman said.
