U.S. Mission in the Gulf

It is reasonable to assume that the Iraqis had not the slightest idea of the “new world order” when they invaded Kuwait. One can’t help but wonder why President Bush did not bother telling them about it when they were massing their army along their southern border before the invasion. Could it be because the President had not yet discovered the “new world order” and it had to take an Iraqi invasion of Kuwait for him to finally stumble upon it?
It may be constructive to make a simple suggestion: Let us stop piling up U.N. Security Council resolutions; it may create an overdose of “new world order” that would be too hard for the Old World to swallow at this stage of profound transformation.
Also, since neither Hussein nor Bush had any inkling of the “new world order” before Aug. 2, why not treat the solution to the gulf conflict as the last deal to be made under the “old world order,” and negotiate with Iraq a face-saving solution (smaller countries do not necessarily have smaller egos) without insisting on total withdrawal as an absolute precondition. After all,a blood bath would not make for an auspicious beginning of a “new world order.”
