TUSTIN — A 13-month-old boy was in guarded condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana Saturday evening after being pulled from a back-yard swimming pool by his father.
Orange County Fire Capt. Dan Young said the baby was found fully clothed floating in about 4 feet of water at 10:33 a.m. Saturday in the family’s pool in the 17000 block of Chatham Drive.
The parents told Young that the boy had apparently been in the water for two or three minutes before being pulled out by the father, Deybis Rodriguez.
Young said the parents called a 911 operator who connected them with emergency medical dispatcher John Gray. The dispatcher reportedly helped the family begin resuscitation efforts before emergency units arrived.
Within minutes, Young said, the child began responding to the treatment and was then taken to Western Medical Center.
Hospital officials declined further comment Saturday night, saying only that the baby was continuing to receive treatment.
