Gunmen firing four or five shots from a passing car Monday shot and killed a young man who was standing across the street from the headquarters of the Lawndale School District, sheriff’s deputies said.
The identity of the victim, reported to be about 16 or 17 years old, was not immediately disclosed. Deputies said he was standing with a group of seven to 10 youths in the 4100 block of 147th Street when he was struck in the head.
“We’re still trying to find out if there’s any gang affiliation,” said Los Angeles County Sheriff Lt. Bill Christiansen.
The suspects were described only as two males. After the shooting, witnesses said the car carrying the gunmen sped eastbound on 147th Street.
