A suspected shoplifter raced along the Simi Valley Freeway at speeds exceeding 100 m.p.h. until a police officer rammed his car into the suspect’s vehicle and stopped him in the middle of the highway, police said Monday.
Francisco Sanchez, 41, of Canoga Park was being held on suspicion of burglary in the Ventura County Jail on $10,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said.
Sanchez allegedly stole several items of clothing at Mervyn’s store at Sycamore Drive and Cochran Street in Simi Valley at 5:38 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Fred James of the Simi Valley Police Department.
Sanchez got on the eastbound Simi Valley Freeway and began driving faster than 100 m.p.h. throwing a stolen $68 jeans jacket from the car as he fled, James said.
James said he rammed his patrol car into Sanchez’s car, stopping it in the center of the freeway.
No one was injured.
