MANILA — Communist guerrillas have kidnaped an American Protestant missionary in the northern Philippines, the military said today.
A military report said Harvey Brown of Seattle was driving a jeep along a highway in Aparri, Cagayan, 260 miles north of Manila, on Oct. 24 when he was stopped and taken hostage at a checkpoint set up by the guerrillas.
There has been no ransom demand and there was no explanation for the abduction nearly two weeks after it happened.
U.S. Embassy spokesman Stanley Schrager said he had heard of the kidnaping but had no details.
