UCLA’s women’s volleyball team, ranked No. 1 in the country, won the battle for the city Wednesday night, beating USC at Pauley Pavilion, 15-5, 18-16, 15-2.
Before a crowd estimated at 3,500, the Bruins had no trouble in Games 1 and 3 and rallied from 13-8 deficit to take an exciting middle game. In that one, UCLA had eight game points and USC seven before the Bruins’ Lisa Hudak finished it off with a hard, low serve that the Trojans’ Katie Haller was unable to handle. The Trojans then trailed, 13-0, in Game 3 before scoring a couple of points.
The win gave UCLA at least a share of its third consecutive Pacific 10 title. The Bruins can take it outright by winning either at Washington State or Washington this weekend.
The Bruins, 27-1 overall and 16-0 in conference play, have won 52 consecutive Pac-10 matches and 46 consecutive home matches.
