Grove Shakespeare Festival: To Be or Not to Be?
Three cheers and a bravo to the anonymous benefactor who gave $10,000 to the Grove Shakespeare Festival (“Grove Donor Says ‘Anger’ Spurred Gift,” Oct. 23). She made my day with her candid and refreshing remarks about the stifling of intellectual passion here in the Southland.
I feel frustrated too about the gradual decline of support for the creative arts, not to mention the censorship mania that assumes we’re all idiots and that practically wants us to deny our sexuality. She’s right on target about our local government officials who seem afraid of creative expression. Remember our Bill of Rights! The freedom of expression through the arts opens the doors to understanding and gives us pause to actually think about our existence in relationship to not only one another but to this earth we all share as well.
So, whoever you are, you’ve got a lot of guts, and your husband is married to an angel.
