LOCAL : Jaywalker Killed in N. Hollywood

A woman who was jaywalking across a North Hollywood street was struck by a car and fatally injured, Los Angeles police said today.

The 55-year-old woman, who police said was a transient, was hit by a car at 6:15 p.m. on Riverside Drive near Morella Avenue, Officer Leona Thomas said. She died a short time later at AMI Medical Center of North Hollywood. Her name was not released while authorities locate her relatives.

Thomas said the woman was crossing Riverside Drive where there was no crosswalk and was not seen by the driver, who was not cited in the accident, Thomas said.
