A 22-year-old Santa Paula man was in custody Monday on suspicion of kidnaping and attempted rape of a woman allegedly abducted at knifepoint from her front yard.
Javier Rios was being held in Ventura County Jail on $20,000 bail after the Sunday morning abduction and assault, authorities said.
Santa Paula Police Cmdr. Robert Gonzales said Rios is accused of pulling a knife on the 28-year-old victim as she stood in front of her Ventura Street home at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, and then forcing her into his car.
Rios allegedly drove around the city and outlying county areas, making sexual advances before pulling over in a Santa Paula park. The woman escaped from the car and summoned police, who tracked down Rios through his car license plate.
