Victoria Herazo of Newhall broke her national record for the one-hour walk Saturday when she covered 12,464.6 meters (almost 7 3/4 miles) in the National One-Hour Postal Walk Championships at Santa Monica College.
The effort broke Herazo’s previous national best of 12,346 meters, which she established at a meet in Boston in October.
“Everything went beautifully,” Herazo, 31, said. “My goal before the race was to break my record, so I’m very happy.”
Juliana Salce of Italy owns the world best with a mark of 12,664 meters.
