SILENT NIGHTS? Under some circumstances Christmas caroling can cause vocal chord calluses requiring surgery, warns Dr. Norman Harris, director of the St. Jude Hospital Voice Institute in Fullerton. “I hate to be the Grinch,” Harris says. But he cautions against singing too loudly for too long in a group where you can’t judge your volume or when your vocal chords are numbed by alcohol or after a big meal.
