Man Charged in Murder, Rape of 11-Year-Old

The district attorney’s office filed charges Friday against a Compton man accused of murder and rape in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s 11-year-old daughter.
James Heard, 38, also faces molestation and assault charges in the grisly death of Katrina Brown, Deputy Dist. Atty. Pamela Frohreich said. Prosecutors will seek one count of forcible lewd conduct with a child, two counts of rape by instrument and assault with a deadly weapon.
Frohreich said an autopsy showed that the sixth-grade honor student had been strangled and bludgeoned with a baseball bat.
