A robbery suspect driving a stolen car was fatally shot in a gun battle with sheriff’s deputies after a chase that ended in two-car crash near downtown Los Angeles Friday night, authorities said.
The chase began when deputies spotted a car in Lynwood that matched the description of one used a few hours earlier in a robbery. The pursuit continued to Broadway and Adams Boulevard, where the suspect’s vehicle hit another car, sheared off a fire hydrant and slammed into a building.
A gun battle erupted when the unidentified suspect, who died at County-USC Medical Center, jumped from the stolen vehicle, Lynwood deputies said. The other motorist, whose name was not available, was critically injured, police said.
