A Manhattan jury awarded $14.3 million to Shenikwa Dawn Nowlin, 31, a former ballerina who was paralyzed from the waist down in a 1983 crash of a car driven by former New York Yankee infielder Andre Robertson. Nowlin is now a Dallas lawyer. The city must pay 67% of the award because of an improperly placed sign and Robertson must pay 33% because he admittedly exceeded the 40-m.p.h. speed limit.
