Norwalk : Father Wins Step in Bid for Custody of Infant Daughter

A Norwalk man whose former girlfriend moved to Oregon and put up their child for adoption without his permission has the right to know where the child is, an Oregon judge has ruled.
The ruling Monday by Marion County Circuit Judge Greg West cleared the way for Mark Hylland, 26, to challenge the adoption and to ask for custody of the 5-month-old child, whom he has never seen.
Hylland has accused former Norwalk music teacher Janet K. Ohnemus, 25, of fleeing to Oregon to keep him from gaining custody of the child. Oregon adoption laws do not automatically give rights to unwed fathers, but they do require the fathers to be notified, an Oregon official said.
