OXNARD : Car Hits and Kills Boy on Skateboard

A 6-year-old Oxnard boy was killed Wednesday when he rode a skateboard into the path of an oncoming car and was struck, Oxnard police reported.
Gauranga Giazzon was struck by a car driven by Victor Barrios of Oxnard in the 1300 block of Offshore Street, said Officer Ernie Orozco. The accident occurred at 6 p.m.
Gauranga was riding his skateboard on the sidewalk as two older relatives--8-year-old and 11-year-old boys--played ball nearby, Orozco said.
The boy then rode his skateboard into the street, Orozco said.
Barrios slammed on his brakes and skidded to a stop, but not before striking the boy, Orozco said.
He was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death was not immediately released.
Barrios was not cited, but police are continuing their investigation, Orozco said.
