Fullerton’s Fabian Luna had a steal and a lay-up with 18 seconds left to give Fullerton its first lead of the game and the Hornets went on to defeat Cypress, 72-68, Wednesday at Cypress in the Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball opener for both teams.

Cypress lead by as many as 11 in the second half, 49-38, but Fullerton rallied behind sophomore forward Bob Terry. He had a game-high 26 points, including 15 of his team’s 17 points at one point in the second half.

Cypress also helped Fullerton by missing a pair of short shots in the final 30 seconds. Cypress’ Robbie Shelton broke through the middle of Fullerton’s defense, but missed a lay-in with 23 seconds left. Shelton fouled Terry trying to rebound his miss.
