Hyundai Shuts Plant in Labor Dispute: South Korea’s largest auto maker closed the facility after a month-old labor dispute crippled production. The company’s 28,000 union members voted for a strike, possibly beginning next week, to push their demands. Hyundai’s management said it decided to close the plant because of a work slowdown that has reduced production by up to 80% this week. Union leaders rejected the company’s decision to shut down, vowing to keep all workers inside the plant in Ulsan, 203 miles southeast of Seoul. The plant has been producing 700 cars a day, compared to its capacity of 3,700 units.
