From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Sutter County Sheriff Art Brandwood survived a recall attempt that arose after he cracked down on the number of permits issued for concealed weapons. With nearly all ballots counted, Brandwood won 8,619 votes (59%) in a Tuesday recall election. There were 5,993 votes to recall the sheriff, who was elected 18 months ago. Brandwood, 53, said he considered the outcome a vote of confidence in his policies.
Brandwood said the county of 65,000 people has issued 1,350 concealed weapons permits, the highest number per capita in the state.
