FREE HAULERS: If you want to rid your house of old books without hauling them off, the federal government will come take care of it for you this week. Beginning Tuesday, mail carriers will pick up donated books when they deliver and pick up your mail. . . . “The books will go to the schools,” says Stacy DiRocco, U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman. . . . “But we’ll take almost anything and find a home for it somewhere.” If you have a boxful, leave a warning note for the carrier. The countywide program runs through Saturday.
