NEWPORT BEACH — A 40-year-old man was pinned under a skip-loader Saturday behind a Big Canyon residence when the vehicle slipped into a shallow ditch he was excavating.
The man fell from the machinery as it slipped into the ditch, and golfers from the nearby Big Canyon Country Club heard the man’s cries and notified authorities, said to Sgt. John Desmond of the Newport Beach Police Department.
The man, Ronald Oliver, no hometown information available, was freed by Newport Beach firefighters and airlifted to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was reported to have suffered scrapes and cuts to his legs. Hospital officials said he was being kept overnight for observation.
