Bertelsmann May Acquire Virgin Records: Germany’s Bertelsmann AG is in talks over the possible acquisition of the music recording and publishing business of Virgin Music Group Ltd. of Britain, sources said. The sources said Bertelsmann’s New York-based Bertelsmann Music Group has made “contacts” with Virgin over the music operations. Those talks “are in the direction of an acquisition,” the source added. Merchant banking sources said the price for the Virgin music business would be about $500 million. London-based Virgin Music Group Ltd. is one of the operations majority owned by British entrepreneur Richard Branson.
