Westchester : Massage Parlor Hearing Set
A hearing in Superior Court that could determine whether a 21-year-old Westchester massage parlor will be shut down for good is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday at the County Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.
Originally ordered to close in November by the city Department of Building and Safety, the International House of Massage obtained a temporary restraining order against the city and has continued to operate despite community and police opposition.
Police have contended that the business, located at 9138 S. Sepulveda Blvd., is a house of prostitution, and city zoning officials maintain that it is too close to residential property and therefore violates the city’s Adult Entertainment Ordinance.
The parlor’s attorney, Jeffrey Douglas of Santa Monica, insists that the business provides only legal massage and does not violate any zoning laws.
Superior Court Judge Robert O’Brien is scheduled to preside over Friday’s hearing.
