RV Park Is Boondoggle

Thank you very much for continuing to report on the highly controversial proposed RV resort for Hueneme Beach.
“We are totally bounded, so we’re forced to recycle what we have,” Councilman Dorill B. Wright says in trying to explain mistakes he and other city officials made 15 years ago, when they slated the entire beach area for high-density multiunit housing. The result was failure to establish an owner-occupant base that would secondarily benefit the community by supporting area business.
Instead, the beach area is replete with homeowners using the beach only as a weekend home. Hence, their purchasing power, and the tax base that goes along with their purchasing power, misses Port Hueneme. The city has effectively pitted beach-area residents against the rest of the city. What non-beach-area city residents don’t understand is that they’re next.
The proposed RV park is just another governmental boondoggle, disguised as a fund-raising measure, which has no chance of success, largely because it is a government project. I think the city should go back to listening and representing its constituents rather than fighting with them.
