La Verne : Alcohol at Heritage Park
Wedding parties renting Heritage Park will be allowed to serve alcohol, the City Council decided Monday.
The council voted 4 to 1 in favor of a recommendation by Parks and Community Services Director Bill Aguirre to allow beer, wine and champagne to be served in the enclosed portion of the park, 5001 Via de Mansion.
Aguirre said those who want to serve alcohol must obtain a city permit and insurance. Guests will not be allowed to leave the enclosed area while carrying alcohol. In addition, city personnel will supervise all such events, and one or more private security guards will be required for parties over 25 people, Aguirre said.
Councilman Thomas R. Harvey dissented, saying that opening one park to alcohol would lead to requests to allow alcohol at other parks.
Mayor Jon Harry Blickenstaff, however, said that the alcohol will be well controlled and that the plan is consistent in with the city’s intent to develop new sources of income.
