Jackie Joyner-Kersee broke her American indoor record in the women’s long jump and Huang Geng of China upset world champion Mike Powell in a meet at Yokohama, Japan.
Joyner-Kersee leaped 23 feet 1 1/4 inches in her sixth and final jump, breaking her record of 23-0 1/2, set in 1988.
Huang jumped 26-7 to beat Powell by about two inches in the men’s long jump.
