NEWPORT ELKS BASEBALL TOURNAMENT : Mater Dei Wins Championship; Sea Kings Hit 4 Homers in Row

Dave Augustus and Jeff Frankel each hit two-run singles during a five-run seventh inning as Mater Dei defeated Capistrano Valley, 8-1, in the championship game of the Newport Elks tournament Saturday at Tustin High.
Don Matthewson (1-0) pitched a five-hitter over six innings as Mater Dei improved to 4-0.
Scott Patton hit a third-inning home run for Capistrano Valley (3-1).
Cale Carter hit a fifth-inning homer for the Monarchs.
In other tournament games:
Corona del Mar 7, Foothill 6--Todd Kehrli, Tim DeCinces, Theo Rokos and Mike Susson hit consecutive home runs in the third inning for the Sea Kings (3-1) in the third-place game.
George Chelius won his third game, and Bryson Groat pitched the final two innings for the save.
Kehrli, DeCinces and Rokos homered against Foothill starter Craig Paisley, who left with a 2-0 count on Susson.
Susson homered on reliever Clay Roberts’ second pitch to give Corona del Mar a 7-4 lead. Clint Pearson homered for Foothill (2-2).
Mission Viejo 9, Orange 3--Deron Drake hit a home run and the Diablos had four doubles in the fifth-place game.
