VENTURA : Hospital Neighbors to Meet With Police
- Share via
Residents near the Ventura County Medical Center and the county’s mental health facility will meet with Ventura police Saturday to organize a Neighborhood Watch program.
The meeting comes in the wake of the Jan. 17 stabbing death of an elderly woman who lived near the hospital. Authorities say a patient from the hospital, Kevin Kolodziej, broke free of a chest restraint, walked out of the hospital and attacked Velasta Johnson in her home.
Since the incident, residents in the area have complained about inadequate security at the medical facilities. About 400 flyers are being distributed in the neighborhood announcing the meeting.
The meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church parish hall, 3290 Loma Vista Road, across from the Ventura County Medical Center.
