Suspect’s Car Makes Its Getaway Without Him

An Oceanside burglary suspect was apparently all revved up and ready to make a getaway Wednesday morning when a quick-witted victim literally helped turn the wheels of justice.
Robert Taylor was allegedly breaking into a garage on Paseo de los Americanos when the homeowner heard the noise, looked outside and spotted a parked car with its engine running, police spokesman Bob George said.
Rather than let the burglar escape, the homeowner ran outside, jumped into Taylor’s idling 1977 Toyota sedan and raced off, George said.
Left stranded behind was Taylor, whom police soon came to visit.
Taylor told police he had been searching for aluminum cans inside the garage. But, when police examined his car, they found it filled with stereo equipment, George said.
Taylor was arrested at the scene.
