The article on the front page of the Orange County section, “Gang War Truce” (April 5), while excellent in content, appeared to glorify gang membership. The three pictures in color give the gangs publicity and pride in their membership in gangs.
I will admit that the fact that they were able to be together without injuring or killing one another does deserve some recognition, but I hardly think the first picture of recognizable gang members does anything but add to their “pride” in their collective gang membership.
The third picture publicizing graffiti was objectionable because such spray-painting is ugly and environmentally disfiguring.
