Trade Talks With U.S. Break Down: Talks between Taiwan and the United States on protecting patents and copyrights have deadlocked, Taiwanese officials said. Washington will now decide whether to place Taiwan on a “priority watch list” of countries that could face punitive tariffs on exports for unfair trade practices, said an American source. Tsai Lien-sheng of the foreign trade board said Taiwan hoped to avoid inclusion on the list by proposing increased protection of intellectual property rights.
