San Diego State Defeats Fresno State in Tennis

San Diego State’s men’s tennis team defeated Fresno State, 5-3, Sunday in a nonconference match with Chris Numbers beating Steve Jackson in No. 1 singles, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Other winners for the Aztecs in singles play were Jeff Belloli and Steve Saba.
Numbers and Belloli also clinched the match in doubles by scoring a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Nils Koitka and Andy Stewart. Numbers and Belloli are ranked 21st nationally. Joe McDonough and Kerry Safdi also won in doubles. SDSU (15-4) plays at No. 4 USC on Tuesday.
MEN’S SOCCER
Former Hilltop High player Charles “Chugger” Adair scored three goals to lead the University of San Diego to a 5-2 victory over the San Diego Sockers Magic team. Cha Cha Namdar and Brian Quinn scored for Sockers Magic in the benefit game played at Torero Staduim. Six USDplayers received team honors at an awards banquet that followed the game.
Sophomore midfielder Kevin Legg headed the list by being named most valuable offensive player. Goalie Scott Garlick was named most valuable defensive player, and midfielder Doug Barry and defender Scott Farley shared the freshman of the year award. Adair, a junior forward, was named most inspirational player and Kevin Arthur received the best team player award.
