SANTA PAULA : Robber Takes Bank Customer’s Deposit
- Share via
A robber escaped with $1,800 from a Santa Paula branch of the Bank of America after he scooped the cash from the counter where a customer was counting out a deposit, Santa Paula police said Tuesday.
The man, who operated alone, threatened to shoot anyone who interfered before he fled on foot, Santa Paula Police Sgt. Gary Marshall said.
No weapon was seen and no getaway vehicle was spotted, he said.
If he is caught, the man will be charged with bank robbery, Special Agent Gary Auer of the FBI’s Ventura office said. “The department’s counsel said that as long as the bank had some or all of the money in their possession, it’s bank robbery,” Auer said.
The incident occurred before 2 p.m. Monday at the Bank of America branch on Main Street in Santa Paula. The robber was described by witnesses as a medium-built man about 35 years old.
