Tyson to Serve Time in Youth Center

Mike Tyson was assigned Wednesday to the Indiana Youth Center in Plainfield, where he can earn a high school diploma and up to $1.25 a day on work details while serving his six-year sentence for rape.
The high-medium security prison, near Indianapolis, also offers the former heavyweight champion a chance for rehabilitation.
“If he wants it, it will be there. If he’s not interested--if he doesn’t think he needs help--then it won’t happen,” said Vaughn Overstreet, a retired corrections department official.
Tyson was convicted Feb. 10 of raping Desiree Washington, a contestant last summer in the Miss Black America beauty pageant when she met Tyson.
The Indiana Supreme Court is reviewing briefs on a request by defense attorneys that Tyson be released on bond while his conviction is appealed.
