Gennaro Leads Aztecs Past Lobos

San Diego State had 16 hits as the Aztecs slipped by host New Mexico, 9-6, in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game Friday at Albuquerque, N.M.
The Aztecs (29-8, 11-1) trailed by a run before their four-run seventh inning put the game out of reach. Brad Gennaro was three for five, including a double. He scored two runs and drove in another two. Greg Quam, Brent Ferguson, Rick Page and Tony Enomoto picked up two hits a piece.
Johnny Baros hit a two-run homer in the first for New Mexico (20-19-1, 7-6).
SOFTBALL
UC San Diego lost two games and fell to 1-3 in the Triton Classic.
In a preliminary game, UCSD lost, 7-1, to Cal State Hayward, then was forced into the consolation round with a 4-1 loss to Concordia (St. Paul, Minn.). The Tritons play Claremont in the consolation championship today at 10 a.m.
In today’s semifinals, top-seeded Hayward (4-0 in the tournament) plays No. 4 Concordia (2-2) at 2 and No. 2 Cal Lutheran meets third-seeded USD. The championship is at 4.
