Readers Aren’t Willing to Pick Up the Check for Shoe on This One

With the Run for the Roses coming upon us, I reminisce of 1986 and the most impressive ride a jockey has ever made in the Kentucky Derby.
I remember that when it appeared that Ferdinand was getting boxed, a courageous jockey named Willie Shoemaker forced this horse to split a horse and the rail and gamble paid off. Shoemaker and Ferdinand were winners.
Five years later, Mr. Shoemaker, you took another gamble. You got in your vehicle while having a blood-alcohol level of .13. This gamble did not have the same positive payoff.
Mr. Shoemaker, I respect you as a horseman, but denying your responsibility and blaming the State of California for your accident is absurd.
I hope that you gain back your self-respect and drop this ridiculous lawsuit.
