Rig Count Increases By 11 to 634: Baker Hughes Inc. reported that the nation’s oil and gas rig count rose by 11 this week to 634. The increase came a week after the count plunged by 16 to set a record low of 623. The previous low mark of 639 was set last month and tied two weeks ago. A year ago, the count totaled 805. The weekly count is a widely watched index of drilling activity and represents the number of rigs exploring for petroleum and natural gas, not those producing oil and gas.
