A 25-year-old man, one of three men whose bodies were found in the Angeles National Forest over the weekend, was identified Thursday as Michael Haines, 25, a former resident of Akron, Ohio.
The stabbed and shotgunned bodies of Haines and Benjamin Velez, 33, of Baldwin Park were discovered at 2:30 a.m. Sunday by two men who stopped at a roadside pullout near East Fork Road and California 39, sheriff’s deputies said.
The bodies were found only nine hours after the body of Anthony Sims, 29, of Las Vegas was found four miles away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday by hikers. Sims, who had been shot in the neck, was lying about 80 feet below Prairie Fork Road. Authorities said it was unclear whether Sims’ killing was connected to the other two.
The men died sometime after Friday night, sheriff’s homicide detectives said.
